Paadha Abhyanga is an Ayurvedic foot massage which provides soothing, revitalizing, calming effects & balance disturbances of the autonomic nervous system. The feet are very important part in our body as it contains many nerve endings and out of 107 the feet have 5 marmas (vital areas).
This therapy holds a special place of importance in Ayurveda because our feet connect our body with the earth. Foot care is holistic and involves massaging the pressure points with herbal and medicinal oils. Applying the right massage techniques relieves the body of its ailments and restores the root of our body and soul through our feet.
The medicated oil is passively made warm by placing a small bowl having oil in a vessel with hot water. The oil is liberally applied to the feet, including the soles, heel, ankle joint, and legs. While attending the ankle, oil is rubbed energetically into the whole joint including the bone of the joint. While on the top of the foot slowly give a soothing massage from the ankle joint moving downwards towards the toes. Massage the spaces between each of the tendons while supporting the heel with the other hand.
Coming to the toes, pinch and massage each toe between your fingers from its root to the tip. Circular motions are done around the joints and vertical massage is done over the legs. Each foot is attended for about 15-20 minutes.
